VLC Media Player 2.0 Available Now
VLC’s media player 2.0 was released and there are some great changes for Mac and PC. Being a Mac person myself, installed it and really enjoy the new redesign. It has a very iTunes feel to it.
The drag and drop feature helps make this the perfect all-in-one media player for anyone. The promise of an Android and iOS version has me excited that finally we might have an open sourced media player that will truly run on all major platforms. You can download it here at www.videolan.org
Social Media Week
A posted video from Social Media Week 2012. This is more of a look into the future then you will ever believe!
Twitter Training
Today I started gathering articles for a Twitter training session I am putting together. Twitter for some reason has never caught on at Michigan Tech. For some reason every time there has been a push for it, the student body rejected it. I believe this to be due to the lack of education about Twitter. We are in a more rural area where the students haven’t had the chance to see the potential that Twitter has for them. The idea is to put together a presentation that I can first train in my fellow staff members and then hopefully bring it to the students. I have already been contacted by another local University about possibly brining this presentation to them as well. It should be quite exciting as I feel the best way for them to learn is to show them live the power Twitter has. Here is an old video but a classic that I love about Twitter and what you can do with it. Enjoy!
Social Media Revolution
These videos have always had a big impact on me and I feel like they are a great way to help you understand how important social media is in our lives today.
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away….
So this is the beginning of it all. I’ve tried so many times to blog in the past and they’ve all fallen through. I never knew exactly what I was meant to share with the world until recently. I always figured you needed to be an expert at something to share your knowledge. I went down the path that since I’m a certified Apple Technician, maybe I should talk about my passion for Apple products and hints and tips to do with them. However, that market is so full of random bloggers that there didn’t seem to be any point. At that level, everyone is just re-posting what someone else writes.
It wasn’t until I was screwing around with a website I was designing before it finally hit me. Everyone I know comes to me for advice about websites, computers, social media, marketing, graphic design, and just about anything else that could fit into that media/technology category. I’m currently employed at Michigan Tech as a Coordinator of Marketing and Multimedia, I work as a Mac Technician at Up and Running Technology Solutions and run my own Design/Marketing Consulting business. Clearly these passions fall under one larger umbrella, Marketing and Social Media. Everything is based off of my foundation and understanding of those two “key” words. The reason I call them “key” words is that they are overused and abused. Many people just throw them out there because they feel they should. I’m sorry but posting that your dog peed in the living room is NOT social media. Yes you did just journal an event that occurred in your life on the web to millions of people, however I wouldn’t consider that to fall under the category of social media, more public journaling.
Overall, I’m hoping this blog not only becomes a resource for you but becomes a conversation in itself where people can open a line of discourse about marketing and social media and that my blog only starts the conversation, but the real benefit comes from the end result of having a conversation with the world.
